70s Mod in Northwest Hills
This project reimagines a 1970s home for a young couple who wanted their space to become the heart of their social world. The house had great bones and plenty of character, but it needed warmth, personality, and a clearer sense of identity. Our goal was to create a home where friends gather easily, nights run long, and the environment feels just as relaxed as it is elevated.
On one side of the home, we leaned into textured neutrals, layered materials, and pieces collected from the couple’s travels. The living room became a calm, grounded space with a “collected over time” feel — perfect for slow mornings, movie nights, and hosting close friends. Unique art finds and meaningful objects give the room soul, while the palette keeps everything timeless, tactile, and inviting.
On the opposite end of the house, the converted garage transforms into an entirely different world. The couple had one non-negotiable request for the lounge: a faux rock wall, a nostalgic nod to seventies rec-room charm and their love of playful, textural design. We embraced the idea and built the room around it, blending mid-century lounge energy with a glam Palm Springs edge. A full bar anchors the space, while a large sectional creates a relaxed, communal lounge zone perfect for cocktail nights, music, and long conversations. The room is bold, atmospheric, and intentionally unexpected — a confident expression of the couple’s personality.
This project celebrates duality: grounded and serene in the main living areas, vibrant and magnetic in the lounge. Together, the spaces create a home that feels authentic to the couple’s lifestyle, full of character, and ready for any gathering.
